Benefit dinner, auction Dec. 5 for Jennifer Huff
Auburn resident Jennifer Ann Huff is preparing for a major surgery in Santa Barbara, California. Huff has struggled  with jaw
issues beginning around age 15. She has undergone several surgical procedures over the past eight years to try and correct the
jaw condition. Attempts have been unsuccessful with the most recent surgery in August 2008 causing accelerated shifting and
deterioration of the jaw. She has now been referred to a specialist Michael J. Gunson, D.D.S., M.D. at The Center for Corrective
Jaw Surgery in Santa Barbara, California. Dr. Gunson is world renowned and has prepared an extensive treatment plan to correct
Huff's condition. This will be a major surgery that will require her to remain in California for approximately six weeks after surgery.
Aside from the constant pain and headaches from the jaw condition, as well as facial malformation, a major concern is her
airway. The airway cannot be corrected until the jaw is repositioned to pull the muscles and bone back into correct position, thus
opening the airway. The surgery will require bone grafting with removal of bone from the hip and reconstruction of both the upper
and lower jaw.
Needless to say, due to the airway collapsing, surgery on Huff is needed as soon as possible. Preparations for surgery are
currently taking place with Jennifer's orthodontist and physicians here in Springfield. Expected surgery is around March or April
2010.
Insurance will meet most costs of the surgery. However, due to the surgery only being able to be performed in California, many
other costs will be assumed by Jennifer and her family. Some cost that will go along with this aside from physician and hospital
fees are: room and board, flights, meals, meal replacements for Jennifer, rental car and gas. To this end, fundraisers are being
planned.
Please join her family at the Auburn United Methodist Church Saturday, December 5 for a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction.
The dinner will be served between 12:30 and 2 p.m.
Reservations are being accepted for the spaghetti dinner at JenniferHuff@rocketmail.com, so that plenty of food will be
assured.
Tickets are also on sale at the United Methodist Church, or from anyone in the Jennifer Ann Huff and Debbie Jones family and
other area churches. Spaghetti, salad, rolls and ice tea will be served. There will be items for silent auction available to bid on
from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Winners will be called to pick up their items that evening.
There has also been a fund established at the Illini Bank if you wish to make donations to assist the family.
