3 arrested in death of former Auburn man
Three Springfield residents have been arrested in the shooting death of Steven Leon Brummett Saturday.
Brummett, a graduate of Auburn High School, who lived in Loami before moving to Springfield, was shot in the back of the head
at an abandoned farm house near the Sangamon/Christian County Line and County Rd. 1900 North Saturday.
Brummett had been reported missing by his employer, Lincoln Checker Cab of Springfield during the early morning hours of
July 25.
Arrested were Brandon Allsup, Donella D. Hamilton and Ashley Davis, all of Springfield.
Allsup and Hamilton have been charged with first-degree murder while Davis is charged with concealment of a homicide says
Christian County States Attorney Thomas Finks. All three were arrested Sunday in St. Louis. The abandoned cab was later found
in Forest Park.
Finks added that Allsup and Hamilton's bail has been set at $1 million each, Davis at $100,000. The three are expected to be
extradited for trial in Taylorville in Christian County. Finks added that he was hopeful they would be in Taylorville this week.
Brummett was last seen Friday night at the Cove, a bar at 1616 N. Dirksen Parkway in Springfield, the cab company not hearing
from him again. Finks said that he believed that the suspects had gotten into the cab there. He also noted that the trio was
familiar with the rural location the body was found, about 3 1/2 miles west of Kincaid.
