CHRIS DANIELS
Lt. Chris Daniels qualifies for Jets
Second Lieutenant Christopher C. Daniels, USMC, completed Primary Naval Flight
Training this past week at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Milton, Florida. He was
selected for jets and is now scheduled to attend Advanced Flight Training as NAS
Kingsville, Texas. All flight training begins at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida,
the "Cradle of Naval Aviation." Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard flight
students spend about six weeks in Aviation Preflight Indoctrination (API) at the Naval
Aviation Schools Command. Here they are challenged both academically and
physically.              Classes include, aerodynamics, weather, air navigation, aviation
physiology and water survival.
After completing API, Daniels proceeded to NAS Whiting Field and completed Primary
training in approximately 22 weeks. Training included ground-based academics,
simulators and flight training in the T-34C Turbo- mentor. Primary training consisted of
six stages, Aircraft Familiarization (FAM), Basic Instruments, Precision Aerobatics,
Formation, Day and Night Navigation, and Radio Instruments.
He next enters the Strike (JET) pipeline to begin training at NAS Kingsville in the T-45A.
During Strike training, pilots learn strike tactics, weapons delivery, air combat
maneuvering, and receive their military instrument rating and carrier landing
qualifications. Students earn their wings in approximately 56 weeks. Daniels earned
the API physical fitness award for achieving the highest score in his class on the
physical fitness test. He was later awarded a Commendation for outstanding academic
achievement after scoring an overall 98 percent average in Primary. Most recently, he
was added to the Commodore's List for students in Training Air Wing Five whose
combined academic and flight averages put them in the top 10 percent of graduating
students.

Local youth to collect for Food Pantry
September 14
The Auburn Food Pantry is in constant need of help. The Auburn Food Pantry
operates on donations only. They receive no governmental money to fill their needs.
On Sunday, September 14, local church youth groups will conduct a collection of non-
perishable food through their assigned section of town from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The
youth of Auburn, with their youth groups, have been collecting for the Auburn Food
Pantry now for the 12th year. All the youth groups will then take the food that is
collected during the collection to the Auburn Food Pantry located in the lower level of
St. Benedict’s Church.
To help the youth with their collection and to support the food pantry, the community
is asked to be ready with donations. Canned meats, fruits and vegetables, macaroni
and cheese, casserole mixes, peanut butter and jelly, spaghetti sauces, soups, dish
detergent, bath soap, laundry products, personal hygiene products, baby care
products, tooth paste and toothbrushes, toilet paper and other paper products are
also needed. The food pantry request that no home canning products be donated at
anytime. If you would like to make a monetary donation, that would also be
appreciated.
If you are unable to contribute at the designated times, are overlooked, or have any
questions pertaining to this collection, they can be directed to the food pantry
representative, Gay Marques at 438-3553. A special note to the church youth leaders
— if you have not responded to your participation in this event, please do so now.
