Blood drive at AUMC Saturday,
January 15
Auburn United Methodist Church will support the Central Illinois Community Blood
Center with a blood drive at the church Saturday, January 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The church is located at 14100 State Route 4. It is very important to maintain a safe
and adequate blood supply since 200 plus blood donations are needed daily for
people in our area. The blood center is the sole supplier to both the Springfield
hospitals as well as 17 other hospitals in the area. Donation uses include victims of
accidents, cancer and heart disease. All volunteers need to bring a picture ID, be at
least 16 years of age, in good health and weigh at least 110 pounds. Anyone under
17 needs to bring a signed parent permission form to donate. Forms are available at
the high school or day of donation at the Methodist Church. Please eat regularly the
day you donate. There is a six week waiting period after pregnancy. Donations are
accepted following major surgery after release from physicians care and return to
normal activities if no blood transfusions were received. A free lunch will be served to
all donors. In addition to helping save lives, we are trying to help Auburn High School
win the Springfield Clinic Blood Challenge. The winning school is awarded a
scholarship for a member of the senior class. Call Jean Todd, AUMC parish nurse,
at 438-9213 to schedule an appointment or for further information. Registration may
also be done online at www.CICBC.org. Walk-ins are always welcome.
Auburn High School students recently

honorable mention going to Mr. Young’s
English III class and Mrs. Cunningham’s

Blizzard affects 2000 RECC customers
Depending on where you live, Rural Electric Convenience customers were without power for varying amounts of time Tuesday and
Wednesday. RECC's Lou Delaby, manager of Operations and Maintenance, estimated 2,000 customers were affected. Not all of the
huge area covered by RECC, which supplies electricity to over 5,000 customers, was affected. Most customers in the Auburn,
Chatham, Glenarm, Divernon and Pawnee areas were back online at various times Wednesday, one of the latest the Edgewood area
in Auburn at 11 a.m. The first outage was reported at 9 a.m. Tuesday, thus some customers were without power for 24 hours or more.
Delaby said, "We tried everything we know, but blizzard conditions with galloping lines took time."   This meant switching to substations
for other areas, etc. RECC has nine substations, and those at Glenarm, Girard and Lowder supply the southern Sangamon County
area.
