YBL registration starts at schools
Registration for the Youth Basketball League starts next week. Deadline is Friday,
December 18. The league is for boys and girls in grades 2-5. There is no cost to
play.  Each player will be placed on a team that will be coached by a varsity player
and given a jersey to be worn for games only. It must be turned in after the season is
completed. Games will start Saturday, January 9 and continue for nine weeks until
Saturday, March 6. The registration forms will be available at the Divernon
Elementary, Auburn Elementary and Auburn Middle School. They should be returned
to their respective school office. Forms are also available at the Auburn Citizen office.
There will be four divisions of play. Boys in grades 2-3 will play in the Mustang
Division, those in grades 4-5 in the Bronco Division. Girls in grades 2-3 will compete
in the Pixie Division; those in grades 4-5 in the Petite Division. The league is in need
of volunteers to officiate (supply own whistle), keep score, timekeeper and as
coordinators, the latter to be sure things run smoothly. Anyone wishing to volunteer
should contact Joe Michelich at 438-6155. Because the teams are coached by varsity
players and gym space is at a minimum, no practices are held. Teams will be
announced around the first of the year. Questions should be directed to Joe
Michelich 438-6155 or 438-3130.

AHS Business Club's winter clothing
drive collects 2,468 items
The Auburn High School Business Club sponsored a winter clothing drive for a
holiday service project. They wanted to make a difference and help the needy and
homeless in Central Illinois. During a three week period, the club collected gently
worn coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and sweatshirts. The efforts of teachers and
students far exceeded the expectations and made the drive a huge success. A total
of 2,468 items were collected. The winning class was Mrs. Lucykow's which
collected 1,057 items. Mr. Smith's class was second with 909 items. Tanner Presker
was the top individual with 206 items, second was Katie Howard with 184 and
Jordan Bartolazzi with 169. It was a great competition between students and
classes. The items filled a school bus and were delivered to the Water Street
Mission in Decatur by Mr. Root and Mr. Pauley. Thank you to everyone who donated
and made the drive such a success. The Business Club would also like to thank the
following businesses for donating prizes for the class that collected the most items
and the top three individual donors: McDonald's and Sonic for certificates, Texas
Roadhouse for a $30 gift certificate and Knight's Action Park for two one-day Water
Park passes. Thank you to Dylan  Langiano for contacting the businesses for prizes
and a special thank you to Mr. Root and Mr. Pauley for transporting the donated items.
