School district working on summer projects
Several major projects are being taken care of this summer by the Auburn School District.
The gym floor at Auburn Junior High at Divernon, additional lockers at the high school and the removal of the tire chips at the
elementary school playground head the list.
The gym floor was completed this past weekend which included sanding and painting. The district is also seeking bids for
concrete for sidewalk replacement and floor tile bids to replace carpeting in the main hall at the junior high.
Supt. of Schools Kathy Garrett said that hopefully this work would be completed prior to the start of school.
Sixty-three additional lockers will be added at the high school in the hallway near Doglio Gym.
The high school enrollment will increase an anticipated 34 students this upcoming year. An increase is also expected for the
2009-10 school year, although less.
This May, the high school graduated 90 students while 124 were promoted from the eighth grade. In the 2009-10 year, the
senior class should number 101 and the eighth grade class 124, a possible gain in two years 57 students.
Because of the dirty conditions created and sometimes clogging the drains, the district will replace the present tire or rubber
chips at the Auburn Elementary School playground with wood chips.
The rubber chips have been in place for about 15 years.
The district is also expected to make decisions on several other major needs in the school year. These include window
replacement at several buildings, air-conditioning possibilities, replacement of boilers and roof repairs.
