Irwin's Park Association meeting June 4
The Irwin's Park Association will hold its annual meeting Wednesday, June 4, at 6 p.m. at the Auburn Public Library.
The primary purpose of the annual meeting is to elect members of the board of directors who will, in turn, choose the
association's officers. Because of the park's location midway between Auburn and Chatham, the association is urging interested
people from both communities to consider serving on the board.
Current board members whose terms expire this year are Vic Devos, Rev. Richard Harre, Roger McCredie, Bill McKain and Wil
Norris. At least one of these board positions will open up. McCredie has indicated that he will not seek another term on the
board. The two remaining directors are George Brown and Mike Garvin; however, Brown is resigning from the board, creating
another open spot.
Except for the person elected to finish the final year of Brown's term, directors chosen at the annual meeting will serve until
2010 (two-year terms). Once the new board members have been selected, they will choose officers, who serve one-year terms.
Officers are not required to be board members.
Also on the agenda will be a discussion of the upcoming day-long celebration, scheduled for June 21 at the park; a proposal
from the Auburn Soccer Association to develop playing fields at the park; and possible acquisition of property adjacent to the
park.
All interested people are urged to attend this meeting and to share ideas about the future restoration and development of the
park. Irwin's Park has a long history as a recreational destination and, to return it to its former state, will require the dedicated
efforts of its membership. In the wake of Auburn Township's transfer of the park ownership to the IPA, community support and
involvement is of even greater importance. Please consider joining the association and helping it reach its goals.
Note that the annual meeting is being held on a Wednesday and that it will be in the Auburn Public Library.
